Two HRL Scientists Honored with IEEE Fellowships

MALIBU, Calif.—November 12, 2008. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) announced today at its annual meeting that two HRL scientists, Dr. Dan Sievenpiper and Joe Jensen, will be elevated to IEEE Fellows effective January 1, 2009.

Each year, the international association recommends a select group of recipients for the Institute's most prestigious honor following a rigorous evaluation process. The fellowship recognizes unusual distinction in the profession and is conferred upon professionals with extraordinary records of accomplishment who have made major contributions and advancements to the fields of engineering, science and technology.

In letters from the IEEE, Sievenpiper was recognized “for contributions to artificial impedance surfaces and structures,” while Jensen was recognized “for contributions to high-speed, analog-digital converters and high-speed digital integrated circuit design.”

Sievenpiper joined HRL in February 1999 and held a variety of technical positions in two of the company's laboratories before being named Director of the Applied Electromagnetics Laboratory in 2007. He received his BS and PhD in electrical engineering from UCLA, and has published more than 50 papers and holds more than 50 patents.

Jensen has been a member of the technical staff at HRL since January 1981 and has been Manager of HRL's Microelectronics Laboratory's Programs Department since March 2006. Prior to his current assignment, Jensen held a variety of technical and managerial positions within the Microelectronics Laboratory. He received his BS and MS in Electrical Engineering from UCLA and has published more than 100 papers and holds nine patents.
