HRL Issued Two Important Patents

MALIBU, Calif.—March 2, 2010 HRL Laboratories, LLC, announced today that it received two important patents from the United States Patent Office. The first, titled "Graph-based cognitive swarms for object group recognition in a 3N or greater-dimensional solution space," involves an object recognition system that incorporates "swarming" technology to classify groups of interacting objects in an image or video. The inventors are Drs. Yuri Owechko and Swarup Medasani.

The second patent, titled "Cloverleaf microgyroscope with through-wafer interconnects and method of manufacturing a cloverleaf microgyroscope with through-wafer interconnects," involves a novel microgyroscope design and a method of manufacturing it. The inventors are Drs. Randall Kubena, Frederic Stratton and David Chang.

To date, HRL has received a total of 520 patents since the company's inception in 1997, with 20 patents issued so far in 2010.
