As a limited liability company (LLC), HRL has evolved from the central research laboratory of the Hughes Aircraft Company into a multi-owner, world-class, research-and-development organization. Today the men and women of HRL focus on developing new technologies in collaboration with our LLC member companies—The Boeing Company and General Motors—as well as universities, government agencies, and commercial entities.
HRL has been a national resource for innovation since 1948; perhaps our most well-known accomplishment was demonstration of the first laser technology in 1960. Today our technical staff remains on the leading edge of technology development through groundbreaking research. We are proud of their accomplishments and our ever expanding portfolio of patents as we continue to push the forefronts of technological advancement for our LLC member companies, our customers, and the nation.
