HRL Laboratories hosted the 3rd International Workshop on the Brain

MALIBU, Calif. Sept. 22, 2014 — HRL Laboratories, LLC, hosted the 3rd International Workshop on the Brain on September 10-12. This private workshop focused on the latest advances in exploring experimental and theoretical foundations of criticality in neural systems and their possible applications to real-world technology.

International experts presented their latest work on critical phenomena covering diverse topics such as power law scaling of neuronal avalanches, neuronal fluctuations and correlation functions, balanced neuronal networks, graph theoretical approaches, and maximum entropy models.

Dr. Narayan Srinivasa, Director of HRL’s Center for Neural & Emergent Systems, chaired the workshop. Among our distinguished invited speakers and co-chairs were Lucilla De Arcangelis (Second University of Naples), Dante Chialvo (COVICET), and Dietmar Plenz (National Institute for Mental Health).
